The name of my business is Embodied Living.

Over the past several years I’ve been asked many times, ‘what the heck is embodied living?’ or ‘how could you possibly live without a body?’ I will try and satisfactorily answer the first question. To the latter I say, look around, the 21st century is filled with talking heads. When we’re sick, injured, aging and dying we all yearn to feel fully alive, again. Yet, so much of life is wasted on autopilot. Even physical activities are done in disembodied ways. Activities like yoga, dance, sex, riding a bike, eating food are often done on autopilot. Checked out. Not fully present.

When was the last time you felt the beauty of a sun set, dissolved into your lover’s touch or enjoyed the buzz of a crisp cool autumn morning? So…what is Embodiment?
The process of embodiment is not a thinking process; it is a way of being. We cannot do embodiment, it is when the awareness of ‘you’ dissolves into cellular consciousness. When there is no separation between ‘you’ (the observer) and the cells (that which is being observed).

Visualization is not embodiment. Visualization is a mental process. The brain imagines aspects of the body and informs the body how to exist. In this process there is the thinker that is separate from the doer.

Somatics is not embodiment. It is the process by which the kinesthetic (movement) and tactile (touch) informs the body that it exists. In this process there is the felt experience that is enhanced through touch and movement.

Embodiment is cells being aware of themselves. It is a direct experience. There is no intermediary or translator. There is no performer. There is no audience. There is only the fully known consciousness of the cells themselves. In this instance, the brain is the last to know. This is complete knowing. Peaceful comprehension. Coherent authenticity. Out of the embodiment process emerges feeling, knowing, and sensing the source of pure being (also known as Love). When you’re ready to merge your head and your heart. Your thinking and sensing. Doing with being. Autopilot with Presence. Give me a call.

 With Love,–Melissa

P.S. Next time I talk about why do I even need to be embodied?
