For me, as a kid, life was scary and unsafe.

I was easily over stimulated. Shutting down and hiding was my safety mechanism.

Now, this was all in the context of living a very public lifestyle.

It was the late 1960’s and I was a little kid and my parents were in ‘showbiz’ and we were on tour, yet again.

I hung around backstage with the ‘stars’. Performers like the Supremes, Johnny Cash, June Carter and Andy Griffith, would magically transform from normal people into gods and goddesses, on stage.

I studied these talents as they turned the presence on and off. I learnt to switch between visibility and invisibility effortlessly. Absorbing my surroundings. Feeling like this was a perfectly normal thing to do.

You see, trauma robs us of our natural ability to feel safe and comfortable in life, in our surroundings and even in our bodies.

And then by some miracle, as a young adult I found embodiment practices. I found that very gesture and conscious breath became an opportunity to feel comfortably alive. I began to experience a felt sense of trust in myself and in life.

Today, I share this work and support others to come home, into the body and feel safe in the world. Even during these challenging times.
